Education

Students living in Pleasanton are served by the excellent schools of the Pleasanton Unified School District which has been named a National District of Character and where 12 out of the 14 schools have received the California Distinguished School designations. Comprised of nine elementary schools, three middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, two continuation schools and a home schooling program, PUSD has a proud history of success and academic excellence that sets their students on the road to becoming responsible citizens within their community. Private and parochial schools are also available for students throughout Pleasanton.

Students ready to make the move to college can do so at a number of nearby colleges and universities. These include Las Positas College, California State University, Hayward, Chabot College, Mission College, Merritt College, and Ohlone College.

Economy & Job Market

Residents of Pleasanton are fortunate to live in an area where the economy is strong and the workforce is abundant. The first major economic boom began in the early 1980s due in part to the development of business parks such as the Hacienda Business Park. These parks attracted a number of corporations like Safeway, Inc., Ross Stores, Shalee Corporation and Polycom.

Many major corporations and big companies are still headquartered in Pleasanton, offering residents a number of employment opportunities. These include Peoplesoft (maintained by Oracle Corporation), Safe Software, Hitachi High Technologies, CooperVision, BMC Systems, and Symantec, among others.

Attractions & Points of Interest

Anyone who lives in Pleasanton knows that the heart of the city lies in its downtown area. Downtown Pleasanton serves as the setting for a variety of community-wide events, festivals, parades, concerts, weekly farmer's markets and other events. First Wednesday and Friday Concerts in the Park are just two of the many festivals that residents look forward to every year. Pleasanton is also the home of the Alameda County Fair, which is held annually at the Fairgrounds. The Fairgrounds also plays host to California's Biggest Scottish Highland Games.

Parks & Recreation

The City of Pleasanton features over 330 acres of undeveloped land, 40 community and neighborhood parks, and approximately 24 miles of bike paths and trails including three that meander around the Callippe Preserve Golf Course. Many of the neighborhood parks are located approximately half a mile from the residential areas they serve and are as small as half an acre (Veterans Plaza Park in downtown) and as big as 237 acres (Augustin Bernal Park). Many parks include their own sports fields and other special amenities.

The Callippe Preserve Golf Course is an 18-hole par-72 municipal golf course and open space project in Happy Valley located in the southern part of Pleasanton. Featuring a ranch-style clubhouse, short-game practice area, and situated on 145 acres of land with 280 acres of land surrounding the course and preserved as permanent open space, the course is designed to accommodate players of all levels while minimizing the impacts to the natural environment. The scenery around the Callippe Golf Preserve includes lush, rolling hills and flat areas, in addition to spectacular views of Mount Diablo and the Pleasanton Ridgelands.
